Brilliant Field Programs Underway
August 5, 2005
Brilliant Mining Corp (TSX.V BMC) ("Brilliant") is pleased to announce that a C$300,000 program of field work is underway on our western Labrador and Nunavut projects.
Western Labrador
The Michikamau, Ossok West, Ossok East, and Scoop properties of Western Labrador were staked on the basis of anomalous mineralization and highly favourable regional geological criteria combined with proximity to infrastructure, such as road and rail access as well as hydro-electric generating facilities. Existing government geology and geochemistry data sets (till and lake sediment samples) were used in prioritizing targets from various suites of rocks with diverse mineralization styles known to have similarities with both Voisey's Bay type deposits that are rich in Ni-Cu-Co and Lac Des Iles-type deposits that host Pd-Pt-Cu-Ni-Au.
A 1,250 line kilometer airborne GEOTEM electromagnetic and magnetic survey is nearly complete that covers favourable Ni-Cu-PGE (Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element) targets from Brilliant's four properties. Preliminary results from this survey are expected soon and a final interpretation will be available in approximately 6 weeks.
A 10 day helicopter supported prospecting program was also recently completed on these properties and a total of 58 rock samples were collected and have been sent for assay at TSL Labs of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Assay results will be available in coming weeks. Additional samples were also collected for academic purposes including whole rock geochemistry and electron microprobe analyses.
Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut
Grab samples from the Bowell Island occurrence have yielded a high of 6.84% Ni, 0.22% Cu, 1.20 g/t Pd and 0.16 g/t Au from gossanous gabbro. Also, the nearby Cone Hill gold occurrence has returned assays of up to 15.8 g/t Au from grab samples along several kilometer long airborne conductor co-incident with banded iron formation.
The Bowell Island Ni-Cu-Pd-Au occurrence and the Cone Hill gold occurrence were recently flown by a helicopter borne electromagnetic and magnetic system. These tightly spaced surveys were completed in order to help focus follow-up prospecting on these targets planned for August, 2005.
Brilliant has an agreement with Falconbridge Limited ("Falconbridge") to acquire a 100% interest in the Chesterfield Property consisting of 15 prospecting permits situated west of Baker Lake, Nunavut. To acquire the interest, the Brilliant must stake certain claims and complete a specified scope of work. The current scope of work will allow Brilliant to assess the potential of this property and evaluate the Falconbridge opportunity.
